Home for the Holidays: Whitehall Mansion in Lincoln

Welcome to Whitehall Mansion. Isn’t this a grand way to be welcomed to a home? This week’s home for the holidays happens to be in my part of town and in my northeast Lincoln neighborhood. In fact, this home was built around the same time that my house was built. For the first few decades, Whitehall Mansion housed a family. Then for awhile, this residence was a children’s home. Now this grand mansion is used as a part of the Nebraska Health and Human Services division. Because the neighborhood wants to keep this home as a part of a community, several times each year, they open up the house to the public. Tomorrow late afternoon you are all invited to take a tour.

I think that White Hall does a beautiful job of decorating for the holidays. Of course, when you have several fireplaces to work with, as well as beautiful built-in bookcases, you have so many possibilities to deck the halls in splendor. When you come to visit, make sure to notice all of the little ways that they make this home festive.

Since there is very little furniture, you can actually see the architectural features that make this house so unique. I imagine that when this location was being used as a residence, getting an invitation to visit would have been a privilege indeed. If you live in Lincoln and have always been curious about this location, today is your day to explore and enjoy being in this beautiful home.
