I have to admit that I really like Christmas movies. Love the sentimental sappiness! And the optimistic message that is often portrayed. What is even more fun than watching a Christmas show on television? Watching one live and in person. During the month of December (which starts tomorrow – yikes), there are numerous opportunities across the state to join an audience watching a Christmas spectacular. Here are several fantastic options!
Frontier Trails
This play will be taking place the next three week-ends at the Kearney Community Theatre. (Image from their website).
A Christmas Revue IV
Come enjoy local talent and kick off the Christmas Season with “A Christmas Revue IV” by Minden Community Players. Their 2nd show date is Sunday, December 8th at 4:00 pm. (Their first one was last week!)
Metro
A Christmas Carol will be taking place all month at the Omaha Community Playhouse. This play will also be happening this upcoming week-end at Nebraska Wesleyean University in Lincoln.

This play will be taking place this week-end only at the Midwest Theater in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Image taken directly from their website.
Pioneer Country
“The Worst Best Christmas Pageant Ever” will be taking place at The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley, Nebraska, the next three week-ends. Based off of the children’s book, this story is such a good one. Tickets are $17 for adults and $10 for kids age 12 and under. A fun way to start the Christmas season!
My fun friend, Keri, happens to be in the show. This gives you a bit of an idea as to what this fun show will be about … 🙂
Beatrice
Christ Community Church in Beatrice will be presenting their 13th annual musical. My longtime friend, Tami, and her music minister husband, Kevin, actually help write their productions. They are incredibly talented. So, if you are looking for an original experience, this would be one! Every production they have done I have wanted to attend – maybe this will be our year!

The Winter Wonderettes will be performed by the Beatrice Community Players next week-end.
P.S. Want to go to see a play but no so interested in a true Christmas show?
Frontier Trails
This play will be performed at the Grand Island Little Theatre the 2nd week-end in December. Image taken from their website.
Lewis & Clark
The Bus Stop will be happening the next several week-ends at the Norfolk Community Theatre,
Metro
Narnia is beginning at The Rose this week-end in Omaha. Several shows are already sold out.
Little Women: The Broadway Musical is happening the next two week-ends at the Lincoln Community Playhouse
The Stage Theater in Hickman, Nebraska, will be putting on a production of Annie starting in the middle of December.
Prairie Lakes
The North Platte Community College Theater and Music Department will present the musical “Godspell” by Stephen Swartz and John Michael Tebelak from Dec. 4-7 at the McDonald-Belton Theater.
To find many of these theatres and productions, I consulted the Nebraska Association of Community Theatres. Before this post, I did not realize just how many groups are performing plays across Nebraska. Almost every region across Nebraska is represented. Kudos to them – performing plays take a lot of time and preperation!
If I forgot to mention a play in your area, please post it on my Odyssey through Nebraska Facebook page. Tomorrow I will be posting about area Christmas concerts. Thanks!
