Knee high by the 4th of July.

According to farming folklore, that is the height that corn is supposed to be by now.

Considering that our sweet corn is almost as tall as I am, perhaps it is ahead of schedule. Or maybe not. Possibly the saying only applies to field corn.

What I do know is that only several miles from our house, corn appears to not have even be planted at all. Hail was not kind to the farmers in our area. But as one my friend’s told me, farmers know that this might happen.

Growth does not always go as expected.

When I started this blog, nine years ago, I did not know what to expect. At the beginning, I wrote and wrote and wrote. Some of those early posts no longer exist as I determined they were not exactly quality ones – ha.

Now I enjoy looking back and seeing the places that we have been. While not my intention, the posts provide documentation of our family’s outings. Many memories were made during our adventures.

For the past few years, this blog has been rather silent. Part of that is because I have now written three books on Nebraska. (I definitely did not see that coming when I started this blog!) Time was spent promoting the books as well.

For the better part of the 2021 and the first part of 2022, I had some major health struggles. My capabilities were limited to completing the basics along with other work for my client on genealogical research. I also continued to write book guides on behalf of the Bess Streeter Aldrich Foundation. I enjoyed this part of writing that did not necessarily involve promotion. But I have missed writing on this blog.

I have writing goals that include more posts. We will see if they come to fruition. We still have three kids at a home. Along with my husband, they are my priority. While this definitely affects my word count, I would not have it any other way. But I see glimpses of being able to write in the future. I will enjoy that, but at the same time I will miss them. (Having the kids around home – I plan on keeping the husband. :-))

For today, I wanted to say thank you for your support of my adventures. I have enjoyed these nine years of writing about Nebraska. I look forward to seeing where the road takes me in the future.
