Writing 100 Things to Do in Lincoln Before You Die this winter put me in touch with a lot of great store owners. One of the aspects of the world shutting down that concerned me the most is the thought of many of theses business owners losing their livelihoods. While I must confess that we do still order some things online, I have been making a conscious effort to shop local as well. These are some stores that are perfect places to find original offerings for Mother’s Day. I will be highlighting those that originated in the Lincoln community.

Local Books

Francie & Finch: Curbside pick-up, online ordering and some porch drop-offs

P.S. Look what I was able to pick up yesterday – Angela Garbacz of Goldenrod Pastries new cookbook, Simply Golden. If you are out of state, you can order the book from Francie & Finch or from Goldenrod Pastries directly.

Indigo Bridge Books and Cafe Online ordering and some curbside pick-up

A Novel Idea – Curbside service and some city-wide delivery.

Local Candles

Feya Candle: Buy a candle, feed a child. They no longer have a retail store, but you can make arrangements to pick the candles up at their Lincoln warehouse to save on shipping.  I ordered two boxes and went to get them yesterday. They smell SO delightful that I am almost sad that I need to give them away!

Wax Buffalo – so many lovely scents are available as well as gift packages

Local Flowers to Order …

Many of these local floral shops have online ordering available, but you also may want to simply give them a call to check availability and scheduling. Also you may want to consider having flowers delivered early or later to avoid overworking these fine owners. For simplicity’s sake, all of the places are linked to Facebook. Many locations do have websites if you are not on social media. Click to find out more about open hours and ordering details.

Abloom (Note: they may not be taking any more orders due to demand, but I wanted to still mention them!)

Burton Tyrell’s Flowers

Fields Floral

GaGa’s Greenery and Flowers

House of Flowers

I Bloom

Petals to Platinum

At Nebraska Nursery and Color Gardens, they are open limited hours for in-person shopping. Their selections are beautiful.

Oak Creek Plants and Flowers offers a hybrid of both plantings and floral arrangements. Their garden space is also open for viewing.
