Happy Thanksgiving Eve! On this November 22nd, my thoughts are scattered. Perhaps that is to be expected. This fall has been an odd one for us. Our house has been on the market for several weeks. Trying to keep a house clean with four kids (or to catch up once the rooms have been exploded) has been a challenge. My first book came out which has been exciting but also added a layer of busyness to my life. Both our two oldest boys are playing basketball which means twice the amount of games. Plus for the past few weeks, I have been sick with an infection that even an antibiotic is not seeming to cure. Either I have been on the go or stopped in my tracks. And I am slowly learning to be okay with that.
Lessons learned this November 22nd …
One thing that has happened to me is that I have felt a whisper on my soul to “Look Up.” The beauty of fall can be easy to miss in this season. As I was thinking about this post, some pictures that I took last fall came to mind. Both the feature image and the below collage pictures where in a location where I was not looking for. Ashfall brings to mind fossils, not fall. But I could not help but take notice of the beauty that surrounded me. Enough beauty that I kept taking pictures after I had left the fossil sites. That is what I am trying to remember during this season – to stop and take notice.

Small Business Saturday
This Saturday (three days after November 22nd) is #ShopSmall. Through the years, I have tried to feature various Nebraska small businesses. They are the life blood of the state. To find out which places I have featured, simply search “small business.” Last year, I wrote a whole post on Small Business Saturday. This year I am feeling like I need to rest instead. So here is a link to the Facebook pages of the stores that I highlighted this last summer.
A Little Inspiration in Geneva
Renaissance Fine Art and Photography in Aurora
Chapters Books and Gifts in Seward
Detour Nebraska Events Following November 22nd
This Saturday November 25th, I will be at the Omaha Barnes & Noble at 74th and Dodge from 1:00 to 3:00 for a book signing. If you have not had a chance to pick up my book, now is your chance. Or if you have a copy, please stop by anyway. I am hoping to talk to a lot of people about what makes Nebraska such a great place to tour!
Next Saturday December 2nd, I will be at Francie & Finch Bookstore in Lincoln from 1:30 to 3:00. This is Lincoln’s newest independent bookstore. At some point, I will be featuring them on the blog because I think it is such a great place to buy books! While I do hope that you came to say next week, you may not want to wait. Instead of Black Friday specials, they are having Plaid Friday. Wear plaid, get a prize. Sounds like my kind of laid back shopping experience!
No matter how you celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
