On football Saturdays, suddenly I crave chips and salsa.  And guacamole.   Throw in some tacos and fajitas, and I’m a happy mama.   Mexican food seems to be the perfect accompaniment to the pigskin.  Most of the time, I tend to make the food myself.  Yet sometimes, leaving the mess to someone else is even better.  Finding great Tex-Mex food at a great price can be a challenge.

This fall my middle son and I discovered a fantastic taco place in downtown Lincoln : Fuzzy’s Taco Shop.  Since they have televisions throughout, their location is also a perfect place to watch the Huskers play or any other team that you might be supporting.  One thing I also appreciated as a Mom – the size of their restaurant.  While they have a bar area, that is in the opposite part of the building.  No more trying to watch a game surrounded by tipsy fans who tend to be a bit obnoxious.

Because Fuzzy’s is more of a fast food place, chips and salsa did not come with the meal.  Since a basket was only $2, I decided that it was worth testing out since for our family salsa is important in the quest for excellent Mexican food.  Their fire-roasted tomato salsa had just enough heat to satisfy both of us.

As for the food, my son and I shared the fajitas.  Can you tell from the picture that we had plenty of delicious food to eat?  In fact, even though we shared the food, we still had leftovers.  At only $8, this meal was a great price.   Actually their whole menu is quite affordable.  Tacos start at $2, and kids meals (important in our family still!) are only $3.49.  Several other unique aspects to their menu: they serve  Mexican sandwiches.  They also open at 7 am and serve honest-to-goodness Mexican breakfasts.  Next time we visit, I will be bringing my whole family along.
