Growing up, I do not remember going to Omaha very often.  While I lived about an hour away, our life was in Lincoln.  Now that I have been blogging for five years, I have been to Omaha multiple times.  I have come to appreciate all that Omaha has to offer.  But I must admit that I can easily get into a rut.  I tend to go to the same restaurants and visit the same locations.  Perhaps I am in a bit of a rut.  That is why I am thankful that my friends, Tim and Lisa, also know as The Walking Tourists have a new book.  100 Things to Do in Omaha Before You Die is the guide that I now want to have with me any time that I travel up to Omaha.  I must say that 100 Things Omaha is actually a bit under exaggerated.  Their book contains around 110 ideas of places to go around the metropolitan Omaha area.

I learned about so many places when I read this book. To admit that is a bit embarrassing since as I mentioned, I have lived within 90 minutes of Omaha my whole life .   My friend, Kim, at Oh My! Omaha said the Trudell’s book has inspired to visit all of the locations wbere she has never been  Since we do have a bit of a drive, I cannot make that happen.   But I do now have a goal to try one new place in each of the categories. Here are the Omaha places that I am picking to visit.

100 Things Omaha Food and Drink

100 things OmahaRarely do I manage to try new restaurants when I am in Omaha. But when I was in town a few weeks ago, I  ventured out. And that is directly because of this book. My selection: Orsis Bakery and restaurant. The pizza was delicious, and their ricotta cookies are a new favorite.  I will tell you more about this long time Omaha eatery soon.

As for a place that I hope to visit, Grey Plume and Big Mama’s Kitchen have been on my list for a long time. But I think would like to go to Stella’s first. Especially if I can convince our 15 year old to try the Stellanator. Their six Patty loaded burger and fries is free if you can eat it in a short enough time.

100 Things Omaha Music and Entertainment

I think I would enjoy seeing a movie in the restored Dundee Theatre. Old theatres are fascinating. Maybe I could catch a classic flick there someday.

100 Things Omaha Sports and Recreation

I have been wanting to take my kids to the Gene Leahy Pedestrian Mall. How does this place fit in this category? The giant slides. Evidently you are supposed to bring along waxed paper.  That is the way to fly while barely leaving the ground.

100 Things Omaha Culture and History

I have been wanting to go the Love’s Jazz and Arts Center. The musical history in North Omaha is legendary. At the site where many a musical event happened , you can learn about these impressive musicians.

100 Things Omaha Shopping and Fashion

Nebraska is the former home of a President. Sort of .  Although Gerald Ford only lived in the state for less than a month, his birthplace is now a destination .  The Gerald R. Ford birthplace features gardens and a conservation center. I definitely hope to visit someday .

100 Things Omaha Natural Beauty

I have been to Nebraska farms many times.   But never one with exotic animals.   Alpacas of the Heartland sounds quite intriguing.  Would be fun to introduce my kids to this unique animal.

How about you? Which one of the #100thingsOmaha would you like to visit?
