Despite the fact that our family has been deliberately exploring Nebraska for the past 2 years, we still have so, so many places that we want to go see. Because we have limited time (and often limited travel money), we cannot flitter about the state as much as I would like. That is why I am so glad that Nebraska Educational Television (NET) has created so many great documentaries featuring some of the worthwhile places around our “Good Life” state.
Their latest show, “Discovering Nebraska” is premiering tonight on NET at 8:30 Central. Last night, I was able to preview the episode (hey, blogging should have a few perks sometimes 🙂 ) , and I can tell you that the show is definitely worth watching. While I was familiar with some of the places, I had only been to one of them with my kids. (This is my shout out to Wessels Living History Farm – we hope to come back again to visit soon!!!!)
Often I bring you weekly “Wordless Wednesdays” where you can guess where we have been in Nebraska. Obviously I can’t do that for most of the show’s locations since we have never actually visited. Yet thanks to the Nebraska Tourism Photo Gallery, I did have fun creating a picture collage of all the places “Discovering Nebraska” featured that are now on our “Nebraska bucket list.” Take a look and see if you recognize any of them. The photo used for my featured image is another location that they “visited” for the show.
To find out the answers, watch “Discovering Nebraska” tonight. If you are busy at 8:30, “Discovering Nebraska” will repeat at 11:30 p.m. CT, Friday, Aug. 21 and at 7 p.m. CT, Monday, Aug. 24 on NET. It will repeat at 1 p.m. CT, on Sat., Aug. 22 on NET World (NET2) and it will repeat at 7 p.m. CT, Sunday, Aug. 23 on NET Create (NET3). Lots of viewing options! If you want to know if you have guessed right and don’t want to wait, you could also watch the linked preview below. Tomorrow I will put up links to all of the locations, so that you can also add all of the spots onto your own Nebraska bucket list. Interestingly enough, none of the locations were a part of my initial Nebraska bucket list post. And people think there is nothing to do in our fine state! Oh the possibilities …
Oh and one more thing, thanks to the generosity of NET, I get to do another giveaway. This time for a subscription to NEBRASKAland Magazine. Since our family subscribed a year ago, we have been enlightened by this Nebraska Game & Parks publication, and I know that your family would as well. From learning more about Nebraska wildlife to state parks to even recipes, this magazine is a great resource. It has even been known to inspire a watercolor painting or two around our house. To win, please comment below on which one of the “Discovering Nebraska” places that you want to visit or have already been to see. Yes, this does require you to watch the show (unless of course you just check out my links tomorrow 🙂 ). But I promise, once you see all of the new ways that you can discover Nebraska, you will be so glad that you tuned in. I will announce the winner of the NEBRASKAland magazine subscription next Friday, so you have one week to enter. Enjoy the show!
[…] the links to all of the places hinted about in the NET “Discovering Nebraska” post. Just in case you did not get a chance to watch the show, here is another picture of the places […]
Those caves are super cool! I need to check this out.
I’ve actually been to several of the places, but not to Wessels Living History Farm yet. Looks like it would be an interesting place! 🙂
I am shocked at how many places I have yet to see when I have traveled the state for fifty years already. Gothenburg was the only place on that page I had even checked out!!!
I’ve been to Gering/ the Scottsbluff National Monument.
I love traveling so I would be excited to go to any of the places!
Thank you for creating this blog! So many things right in my own back yard that we could go see! Most of which I knew nothing about! My oldest did get to see Happy Jack Chalk Mine with her grandparents this summer.
