For a week that included two snow days in our area, today is turning out rather beautifully.  If you are tired of being stuck in the house, tonight is the night to get out and about.  Today happens to be THE first Friday when art galleries are open late across both Lincoln and Omaha.  Two brand new exhibits are opening in the Capital City as well.

“Bud, Branch and Berry” the new gallery display by Margaret Berry is opening tonight at the Lux Center.  The reception is from 5-8 tonight at 48th and St. Paul in Lincoln.

“Homefront & Battlefield: Quilts and Context in the Civil War” just opened this week at the Center for Great Plains Art in downtown Lincoln at 13th & Q.  They have a special opening night reception tonight until 8.

Certain places across the Capital City have free admission on First Fridays, including the International Quilt Study Center and Museum.  Tonight they are featuring “Bless this Mess” in honor of their current expansion.  For other art openings in the area, you can check out the Lincoln Journal-Star calendar.  You can also follow Lincoln First Friday on Twitter.

Planning to be in Omaha tonight?  Celebrate “First Friday in the Old Market” where all kinds of galleries are open.  Not feeling like art tonight? Celebrate family night at the   Omaha Children’s Museum instead where they are having “Candy Land” night.
