Ready for the Mother’s Day lunch edition? I am quite excited to tell you all about a wonderful restaurant that is definitely a new favorite of mine! our anniversary back in January, my husband and I stayed downtown, so I had fun picking out the perfect Omaha location for our lunch. (Thankfully I am married to a simple man who eats whatever and puts up with his wife’s love of trying new places!) Located in downtown Omaha, Block 16 is one of those places where you want to visit often. For one thing, the food is just that good. Plus the menu changes frequently, so you need to keep going back to try the new selections. Besides the food, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
Due to various reasons, we did not get around to eating lunch that Friday until almost 2:00. This is how you know that a restaurant is a good one – they still had a long line of diners waiting to order their food at that time. (Note to self: do not arrive right at noon unless you have a bit of time to wait). I should mention that while we did have to wait several minutes to place our order, we did not have to wait long for our food to arrive. The menus are posted in three spots, so that you do not miss out on any of the specials.
Our picks that day (descriptions taken directly from their menu):
Croque Garcon 7.25
1/3 lb hand pattied burger, cheese, ham, farm egg, mustard & truffle mayo on ciabatta
Pulled Pork Roll 7.95
Slow braised Truebridge Farms pork on a sourdough roll with melted swiss, caramelized onion, pickles and mustard & mayo.
Not only do they have super fantastic burgers and sandwiches, but their French fries are also delicious!!!!! We sampled two kinds (yes, they have choices here too – hip hip hooray) – the poutine fries and the dragon fries. The dragon fries might just be my favorite fries EVER, but don’t take my word for it. Recently they were featured in a Yahoo Travel article with the dragon fries being the best fries in Nebraska.
Want to know what new recipes they are trying today? Check out their Block 16 Facebook page. Better yet, become a fan so that you do not miss any of their specials. Maybe do not look if you are hungry unless you have time to go there right away – their food looks SO delicious.
Okay – I am 0-2 on my picks. Not in the restaurants – they are both delicious. But in the fact that the place that I picked for you to take Mom for lunch also happen to be closed on Sundays. Guess that means you need to take her out for lunch today. Maybe I am actually 2-0. After all, what mother would be unhappy about eating out all week-end for Mother’s Day? Especially if her kids are paying. Anyone in my family reading this? I happen to be available to be treated to lunch today ….
