Because I definitely have a sweet tooth, the fact that I really like doughnuts is not surprising. Through the years, I have gotten a bit more particular in what doughnuts I am willing to eat. Bags of smushed powdery cakes are no longer appealing. Maybe part of that reason is because I have had the delicious offerings of the Doughnut Hole. For one of my early blogs, I told you all about this local doughnut shop. Since then, they have changed ownership and also have changed locations. An updated post was long overdue!
The Doughnuts
Every day, they offer around two dozen types of doughnuts including cake, raised, fritters and long johns.
In case you were wondering, here are the definitions that help distinguish the various types of doughnuts.
Doughnut: a small cake of sweetened or, sometimes, unsweetened dough fried in deep fat, typically shaped like a ring or, when prepared with a filling, a ball.
Fritter: a small cake of batter, sometimes containing corn, fruit, clams, or some other ingredient, fried in deep fat or sautéed. (Thankfully they do not offer clams as a part of their breakfast flavors!)
You can learn more about the other types of doughnuts including how Long Johns got their names from this Eatery Article.
The Specialities
Two of their offerings seem to be customer favorites: the maple bacon long john and the apple fritter.
The Coffee
Once upon a time, they offered a selection of coffee drinks. Now they are choosing to focus on keeping up with the doughnuts. Only black coffee is available with optional cream and sugar. If you are like my husband who sometimes prefers to have less choices, this limitation might make you happy!
The Location(s)
The Doughnut Hole is now located in the center of town: 5600 S 48th St Ste 112 This is the spot to visit if you want to pick from all of the doughnuts. They do have a cafe seating area in case you would rather not wait until you get home to eat your doughnut. Every day, they are open from 6 am to 1 pm.
Not in this part of Lincoln? The Doughnut Hole delivers to multiple Lincoln Gas Stations (including Super C, Fast Mart and U-Stop). They also deliver to gas stations found in several small towns. If you live fairly close to Lincoln and have not seen any at your station, make a request. They just might be able to accommodate you!
